Crestuma Lever Dam

The Crestuma-Lever Dam is located downstream of the Douro River, in the extreme east of the Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.

It is the last dam on the Douro before reaching the mouth. Entered into operation in 1986, the movable type dam is made up of nine 25.5 meter high pillars, supported by eight discharge gates and a navigation lock along the left bank of the Douro. The reservoir extends for around 44km. It has a crown length of 470 meters. The installed electrical energy production capacity is 117 MW.

In addition to storing water and producing electricity, it serves as a pedestrian and road crossing to the municipality of Gondomar, on the other side of the river.

Lomba River Beach

Praia Fluvial da Lomba is located on the left bank of the Douro River, at the end of a small peninsula formed by the winding curves of the river, where there is an inverted “U”, close to the town of Lomba in the municipality of Gondomar. The beach is famous for its extensive sand, surrounded by a verdant pine forest and, for the possibility of camping, with a very complete support infrastructure (parking, picnic area, barbecue areas, free camping site, cafe with terrace and outdoor showers). During the summer season, from June 15th to September 16th, a team of lifeguards watches the beach, ensuring the safety of bathers.
